The resistance is in me and you

There’s no resistance in reality, just resistance in me and in you.

Everything in reality is drawn to us by law of attraction.

It couldn’t persist in my reality unless I was attracting it to me.

That goes for everything from physical aches and pains to the tone of relationships, economic conditions, and even the ideas that come to me.

When we blame reality for how we feel we disempower ourselves. Resistance can’t survive in our reality unless it is alive in us.

If we start paying attention to the vibration of everything in our experience, we tune into how the law of attraction is operating.

What are the vibrational frequencies of the objects, people, circumstances and interactions around you? Can you feel them? They are nuanced, multifaceted, and constantly changing; but what you are feeling is a direct indicator of your own vibration.

If you can start tuning into the vibrations of things, asking “what is the vibration of this?” “What vibration am I attracting to me?” then you are no longer activating your own resistance.

Dynamic

As you start feeling the vibration of things in your reality, you are already changing your own vibration, which in turn changes your reality.

Relationships are a great example of this. I might be frustrated by my toddler’s behaviour, and if I try to feel the vibration of her behaviour I see that it matches the frustration and impatience in me.

But the moment I tune into her like that, I’m no longer activating my own vibration of impatience and frustration, and almost immediately I feel a different vibration from her. My openness to vibrational reality and my willingness to take responsibility for what is coming to me releases my resistance and I can suddenly appreciate her in a different light.

What’s actually happened is that my vibration has changed and law of attraction is bringing me an aspect of her that is a match to my new vibration.

Becoming aware of the vibrational feedback law of attraction is bringing to me tunes me into the whole dynamic and simultaneously improves my vibration, thereby allowing me to witness law of attraction in action.

It’s good to understand that we create our reality, but we also need to practice it somehow. Tuning into the vibration of what we are already attracting is a powerful way to release resistance and begin mindfully creating.

What are desires?

Bonus post!

In the Abraham-Hicks teachings preferences and desires are central.

The basic framework is “ask and it is given”:

1. Experience of contrast causes us to launch “rockets” of desire, consciously or not.

2. Source/inner being immediately expands to become a vibrational match to our desires.

3. We allow ourselves to keep up with the expansion of our inner being, and thereby become a match to our desires too.

Step 1 and 2 happen automatically and immediately. We can’t help but launch these rockets of desire and preference all the time, and our inner being becomes a match in that same moment.

From a vibrational standpoint our desire is already granted. But step 3 depends on us, our free will and control of our attention and focus.

If we focus in alignment with our inner being then we are a vibrational match and our physical reality will change to reflect our vibrational reality.

But if we focus out of alignment, this misalignment is reflected in our physical reality instead.

What A-H calls “the art of allowing” is learning to focus on things that feel good, stay in alignment, and therefore easily go with the expansion of our inner being.

What is desire?

Not that we need to know this, but it’s so cool I wanted to share it.

Recently I heard A-H describe in passing how brief most of our moments of alignment are before we throw ourselves into misalignment once more.

So brief in fact that they describe our desires as “rockets”; because desires are in fact moments of pure alignment.

Desire is a brief instance of alignment called forth and allowed by us in response to contrasting experience.

Desire is not yearning or need or hunger – it’s a moment of calling on our inner being with clarity and purpose in response to contrast. It could be so brief we don’t notice it, or it could be big enough that we begin calling on it more and more.

So it makes sense why step 1 and step 2 are so effortless and close together: the moment of asking is the moment of answering.

We wordlessly ask and the asking is itself an invocation of our inner being’s power – grace.

That is why desires feel so good! They are the crack in our resistance through which the light streams in.

But most of us turn away from that light and focus on the darkness. “How is this desire going to be fulfilled? How can I make it happen? It doesn’t seem very realistic! I’ve never heard of this kind of thing happening easily. I really wish it would happen! I need it to happen!”

We end up focused negatively on the subject rather than positively on the desire.

And yet the desire is already its own answer. Vibrationally the desire already feels good if we don’t squelch it wig resistant thoughts.

That is the art of allowing – to not squelch and stifle our good feeling thoughts and desires with bad feeling ones.

Doesn’t matter how “true” or “justified” those bad feeling thoughts feel. If you feel bad you are focused out of alignment and you cannot share in the joy and freedom and expansion of your inner being.

So if you can feel good about your desires, then do that. If you can’t, then find anything else to feel good about, or better, or less bad, or just relief.

You don’t ever need to focus on your desires because your inner being has already become them. You just need to find your way into alignment, and that’s the path of caring a out how you feel and finding a way to feel better.

It’s a game…10!

When I used to read fantasy books as a kid I’d imagine myself in one of those worlds and invariably I’d end up wanting to be a magician or a sorcerer or wizard.

Not just because they were the most powerful…but because their power implied a complete understanding of how reality really works.

Recently it dawned on me that this is what I really want, and what I am looking for in the Abraham-Hicks material.

While I want abundant wealth and a beautiful home and good relationships and health, what I truly desire is to understand and master my relationship with reality itself.

For a long time I’ve felt there’s something “off” in my relationship with reality. Something I wasn’t understanding or something I’d misunderstood.

In A-H terms I’ve learned that it’s really a three-way relationship: my physical self, my inner being, and reality.

I want to heal this relationship. Along the way I’ve learned that my physical self is the creation of my inner being. I exist as a point of focus for experiencing physical reality, but the greater part of me is non-physical.

I’ve also learned that reality reflects the vibrational point of attraction for both my inner being and my physical self.

My inner being is always positive. It’s a vibrational match for all my desires and preferences, and while it is aware of my whole experience it never focuses on the unwanted or negative aspects.

When my physical self and my inner being are aligned in their focus I experience this alignment in the form of good feeling emotions. But when my physical self focuses towards unwanted or negative things it becomes misaligned with my inner being and I experience that misalignment as negative emotion.

So while my inner being is always attracting pleasing, satisfying, desirable conditions to itself, my physical self has the potential to attract unpleasant, unwanted, undesirable conditions. My reality is the culmination of these elements.

What I really desire is to have clarity in this relationship with my inner being and reality, to truly understand what works and what doesn’t. I want to be clear and knowing in myself at every moment whether I am allowing my inner being to dominate, or resisting it with misaligned focus.

While people avow having changed their lives for the better using the A-H teachings, for me a change for the better entails the repair, restoration, and satisfying mastery of this relationship at the core of my existence.

It’s a game…05!

There are things we want in life that sometimes seem difficult or impossible to have.

Thinking about how to get them usually leads us into a downward spiral. So Abraham-Hicks advises that we instead focus on why we want these things.

The answer is always ultimately because of how we will feel when we have the things we desire.

Having a great relationship or an amazing job would make it easier to feel good – at least at first.

But since happiness is a vibrational game, it’s not the thing that makes us happy, it’s the vibration we are focused on.

The person you want to be with doesn’t make you feel good; it’s your vibration on the subject of that person. When you think about that person/subject you activate a vibration closer to the vibration of your inner being, and so you feel good.

But you can also think about that same person or situation and activate a vibration further away from the vibration of your inner being, and that will feel bad.

And since life is about creating and expanding through our desires these good and bad feeling vibrations correspond to thoughts that allow or resist our desires.

So what to do?

It might sound a bit strange, but since happiness is a vibrational game why not find the really good feeling vibration you associate with having that relationship or getting that job, and just feel the vibration now?

That’s what Abraham-Hicks are teaching. How do you feel when you imagine being with that person? Excitement, adventure, connection, energy. How do you feel when you imagine having that job? Purposeful, creative, proud, accomplished, energised.

When you imagine it to the point of feeling it, you activate the vibration. Just practice that vibration now. It couldn’t be more simple.

It’s not the person or the job or any other condition making you feel so good. It’s the vibration. And you can have the vibration right now and in every moment and eternally.

The question is: do you want to feel that good right now? Don’t feel bad about it, but you’re probably not ready to feel that good. That’s why Abraham-Hicks advises to start with just aiming to feel better.

But when you are ready to find the vibration of the things you desire, then you can enjoy the essence of your desire in this very moment.

Hold that thought! A vibrational shift

I wanted to share an example of vibrational shift because it’s good practice for me and might help some readers to see how I do it (but you do what works for you).

I’ve noticed a feeling of struggle, daily grind at home. I feel like there’s nothing really exciting for me or the kids to do, but plenty of unwanted tasks that have to get done.

I’m self-aware enough to know that I’ve had this attitude since I was a kid. It’s a great example of creating my reality consistently despite significant changes in my circumstances.

So instead of trying to change my circumstances, let me change how I feel, by changing my vibration.

I like to do this by finding the best-feeling thoughts available to me, and writing them out while I appreciate the feeling:

I love knowing that this is a vibrational game. I love knowing that my inner being adores where I am right now. I love knowing that all my desires are already fulfilled in vibrational reality. I love knowing that I am coming into alignment with that vibrational reality.

That’s all in A-H terms, but you can do the same in religious terms, or simply in basic emotional terms:

I love the feeling of freedom. I love the feeling of appreciation. I love feeling loved and appreciated. I love feeling ease and flow. I love knowing that everything is taken care of. I love knowing that everything is okay. I love knowing that I’m on the right path.

It’s entirely up to you what words or thoughts or ideas are most efficacious.

If I spend ten minutes focusing on these thoughts as I write them out, I feel different and that means I have successfully changed my vibrational focus.

I feel good and I acknowledge that I’m now broadcasting this much better-feeling vibration.

That’s all it takes. If we do that often enough and try to remain in that good-feeling place consistently, then life will be completely different.

The moment you stop the exercise you may find your old vibration reassert itself as you face “reality” again. But it’s actually you switching back to your old vibration that causes the negative feelings to return.

What does it take to stop the old vibration returning? Practice of the new vibration, awareness of when you’ve gone back to the old vibration, and not beating yourself up when that happens.

Just like learning to ride a bike, falling off is an inevitable part of becoming proficient.

Just like learning to play piano or touch-type – mistakes are just part of tuning yourself in to playing or typing perfectly. If you beat yourself up for every mistake you just slow down the learning process. Recognise the mistake and move in the direction you want to go.

Feel better, and when you feel worse just recognise that you’ve let your vibration slide. Write out your really good feeling thoughts and enjoy the feeling of those higher vibrations, with the intent to go deeper and stay longer each time.

For this subject of daily life feeling like a struggle, that tells me what I don’t want, and I can thereby use my exercise to focus in the direction of what I do want. This is called “pivoting”, as you find the opposite of the bad-feeling vibration.

Life is meant to be easy. Life is meant to be effortless. Everything works out for me. There’s no struggle or effort required. Ideas and inspiration spontaneously occur to me. Things just seem to work out. Things just seem to take care of themselves. There’s nothing that needs my urgent attention. There’s nothing that needs me to push or cajole it.

I create my reality. Everything comes together in response to my vibration. Everything is working out according to universal forces. Everything is a match to my vibration.

Life is easy. Life flows without struggle or effort. Life is a downstream ride. I allow things to take care of themselves. I allow things to work themselves out. I allow ease and joy into my experience. I allow love and happiness into my experience. I allow life to surprise and delight me. I allow life to enchant and satisfy me.

It’s a vibrational game!

It’s a game…02!

Since happiness is a vibrational game we should be able to simply deactivate vibrations that we don’t like and replace them with higher ones.

Abraham-Hicks teaches that our lives tend to be consistent because most of us are focused on the vibration of “what is”, in a kind of feedback loop.

Daily grind, ennui, boredom, struggle, when these are parts of your daily “what is” your attention to them keeps them active.

You’re not bored because you can’t think of anything to do; you can’t think of anything to do because you’re already vibrating boredom.

If you don’t know happiness is a vibrational game you’ll think boredom, ennui, etc have to be overcome by something external. Boredom feels like a tar pit and you have to somehow claw your way out of it even as it sticks to you.

But it’s possible to let that vibration go and focus on a higher one. If you understand that it’s a vibrational game, that you are like a vibrational broadcasting device, broadcasting whatever you are focused on, then it becomes easier to swap out the vibration of boredom or struggle for the vibration of alignment.

“It’s a game” means that there doesn’t have to be continuity of focus. Usually if we are bored or feeling struggle or ennui we have beliefs that “this is the way life is” and therefore “it will take something exceptional to change”.

But this is simply not true. Ennui is only “what is” for you because you hold that vibration so consistently. Show yourself that you can change your vibration without having to justify or account for the change.

Focus deliberately on anything that feels good to you, and appreciate that you thereby shift your vibration to something that serves you much better.

In the midst of boredom or ennui, focus deliberately on a subject that feels good. I like to write out thoughts that feel good, based on my spiritual beliefs. When I do this, I immediately activate a much higher vibration than boredom or struggle, and my reality is immediately transformed.

It’s a game…01!

I love having these series to help me stay on track and be focused, and thirty days/posts is a good number to work with a theme.

The new theme is that happiness – all of life in fact – is a vibrational game.

What matters is the vibration you’re broadcasting – not the words you’re using, not the amount of struggle you’re enduring, not the coherence of your story, not the effort you’re making.

It’s a game!!!

Your life has a story, but that story doesn’t define you. Your story, your identity, your past experience do not define you and do not determine the vibration you are offering or the energy you are tuning in to.

That’s why it’s a game: think of it as a game and there’s no reason why you can’t right now tune into a subject, and idea, and hence a vibration that feels really really good.

If life is a story then you are ruled by continuity and narrative arcs. No one likes a story where the hero just decides one day to focus on things that feel good, and their whole life changes for the better.

But if you were that hero, wouldn’t you rather just feel good and know that everything will follow your feeling?

That’s how it’s a game.

It’s not about understanding everything, or learning everything, it’s not about pleasing people or competing with people, it’s not about being good or being great; it’s only about the vibration you broadcast, and that means you can right now focus on things that feel good and let go of anything that doesn’t.

Traditional religions teach the same lesson: grace is a gift. It breaks all the “rules” we’ve established for how life operates. Enlightenment destroys karma. The Way nourishes all beings. At the core of every teaching is a direct relationship with the divine: intrinsic, unearned, and in joyful disregard of all convention and causation.

And it promises happiness, spiritual and material support and abundance, life in all its fullness if we just believe that we have received it.

That’s what all this “vibration” stuff is about. You can tell which thoughts are closer to belief because they feel better. But you can feel better in any subject and know that you are closing the gap.

That’s why it’s a game…just find a higher vibration, any good feeling thought, and let that be your focus.

Practicing happiness 30

It’s a vibrational game!

What a fitting subject for my 30th post in this series!

I am coming to understand that happiness is a vibrational game. What this means is that the vibration of your thoughts or attention matters. It’s the vibration that really counts – not the words, not the subject, not the meaning, not the context.

I’ve tried to “let go” of resistance by analysing, unpacking, and trying to shift it. But that’s not what letting go looks like.

I thought there had to be some process of unlocking, undoing, reprogramming resistant thoughts; but so long as I’m focused on those resistant thoughts, that’s the vibrational signal I’m broadcasting!

Even though it felt like progress, even though I could recount great narratives of my realisations; I was still broadcasting resistance.

That’s not letting go. Letting go is…bypassing. Letting go is changing the subject. Letting go is focusing somewhere else. Letting go is going around the obstacles in my path rather than trying to remove the obstacles.

That’s why it’s a vibrational game. All that matters is the vibration you are broadcasting and you know it by how it feels.

I love knowing that I create my reality. I love knowing that I attract everything into my experience. I love knowing that my experience and my feelings are a perfect match to what I’ve been broadcasting, and I love knowing that I can change what I broadcast. And I really really really love knowing that it’s easy to change what I’m broadcasting, I just need to focus on anything that feels good.

Like any game it takes practice to get better at it. It took me lots of practice to realise that it was a game! But now I know, and it will keep getting easier and more fun as I continue.

Every time you feel bad, switch to a thought that feels good. Spend time writing out thoughts that do feel good, and more will come. Relish the good feeling these thoughts bring you, and when you notice you’ve stopped feeling good, take the time to get back in that good feeling vibration again, and don’t beat yourself up when you fall out!

Close the gap…but not too much

There is always going to be a gap between your vibration and that of your inner being. When the gap is wide we feel bad. So in order to feel better we must close the gap.

That’s why we find better-feeling thoughts. Each better-feeling thought is vibrationally closer to the joy and love and appreciation our inner being (God) already enjoys.

But the gap is not a bad thing. The gap – and the contrast it brings – is why we are here. It’s only because of the gap that we can form new preferences and desires and allow expansion.

Sometimes we try too hard to close the gap or we think there shouldn’t be a gap, shouldn’t be any contrast in life. These efforts to eliminate the gap do not bring happiness, nor can they succeed.

The gap is important and necessary, it only feels bad because we are looking at it the wrong way. From God’s perspective this gap is of tremendous value. And if we can learn to appreciate it as well then it can become a source of eagerness and joy rather than fear and incompleteness.

Learning to love contrast because contrast is the foretaste of new expansion; learning to appreciate the gap because the gap is what this life is all about; this is the way to true happiness, happiness in the path and the journey, not happiness conditional on outcomes and circumstances.

Letting go 05: What is reality, really?

We think we inhabit a physical world with fixed rules based on observable forces and objects. But when we dig into this solid, enduring reality we find that there is nothing substantial at its core.

Molecules reduce to atoms, atoms reduce to subatomic particles, subatomic particles reduce to…what exactly? Measurable quantities of energy, properties of mass and charge, probability functions?

And if we go in the other direction, turning our attention back onto the observer, what do we find there?

No one has come close to reducing consciousness to something more tangible or physically explicable. The experiential core of your individual reality defies a material explanation.

Many people have encountered and contemplated this intangible reality of ours and there’s a consensus of sorts that however we explain both the subject consciousness and the objects or phenomena known by consciousness, the two cannot be truly separate and distinct in nature.

Non-dualism rules

This used to be my thing, but I got a bit cynical when this “enlightened” perspective didn’t yield any apparent benefits to me.

Back then I didn’t understand that I could feel better just by making how I feel my top priority. I didn’t yet believe that nothing is more important than feeling good. I didn’t know that feeling good is good.

I know so much more now, and it’s funny and satisfying to see old knowledge I’d let gather dust suddenly fall into place as a component of my happier and more aligned perspective.

So what do I have to gain from my unusual perspective of reality? What does it benefit me to see beyond appearances? What can I do better or differently now that I know how things work?

Vibrational reality

The upshot of all this is a different causality. A different kind of cause-and-effect at work in reality.

When we wish things were different, we tend to look at our circumstances and ask “but how can all this simply change?” We imagine physical laws and physical reality governing all things. We regard manifestations as dominant.

But this leaves no place for the miraculous. It leaves no place for revelation. It leaves no place for providence.

In the Abraham-Hicks teachings we are told that there is a vibrational reality waiting for us that is a perfect match to everything we desire – with the caveat that our desires will never stop expanding and evolving.

The only thing missing from that vibrational reality is…us. We are the only component that freely chooses whether or not to allow vibrational change within us. We are the only part of our reality that can resist the pull of our desires and the outpouring of love and blessings that is God’s response.

We resist this pull by focusing on the unwanted and misaligned aspects of everything. This habit of thought keeps us feeling disjointed and out of harmony with what we desire. It turns an effortless journey into an unpleasant struggle.

But the solution is easy. We just have to learn to let go and allow ourselves to be drawn into the new reality that awaits. We just have to let ourselves be part of the tapestry God is weaving on our behalf. We just have to let ourselves be taken care of, and enjoy being passengers on the way.

What could be more valuable than a deep and moving feeling of appreciation and love in your heart? Well maybe you’d like to be rich too. But only because you associate being rich with having feelings of freedom, joy, trust, confidence, appreciation and joy.

The audacious claim in the A-H teachings is that by finding those feelings you will allow that wealth to come to you. It’s not just that: whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be added unto you.

That will require letting go of resistance, including perhaps the resistance in your old view of “how the world works”.
